A Trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Inside Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Love art and being close to nature?

Then I’m sure you’ll love the award-winning Yorkshire Sculpture Park which offers the perfect combination of nature and art.

Throughout the year the park hosts exhibitions from some of the world’s leading artists. For those of you who are familiar with the 20th Century Spanish artist Joan Miro, may like to know his work is currently being exhibited.

As well as hosting high profile artists all year round, Yorkshire Sculpture Park also promotes young local artists and it is a popular place for art students seeking inspiration.

You are free to walk around the park and discover man-made sculptures alongside the beauty of Yorkshire’s nature. Most pieces are not just there to be seen, but also touched. The park offers a complete sensory experience, where you are free to walk inside some of them, observe how the materials change depending on the weather, over all making the park perfect for individuals, couples and families alike.

I recently visited with my new SLR camera and made an attempt at using it. These were some of the photos I developed. The picture below is from inside the sculpture Oxley Bank, a two-storey pavilion built upon a high ridge of the valley. Once inside you can see fabulous panoramic views of the park’s unique landscape.

Jaume Plensa exhibition inside YSP

After exploring the outdoor sculpture park, I headed inside the museum for the Jaume Plensa exhibition. Jaume Plensa is a prominent Spanish artist and sculptor renowned for his captivating and thought-provoking works that explore themes of identity, spirituality, and human connection.

His sculptures often feature human figures, both abstract and realistic, made from materials such as steel, glass, and resin. Plensa’s art seeks to evoke emotions and create a sense of shared humanity, often integrating text and language into his sculptures to convey powerful messages.

Verdict

Yorkshire Sculpture Park is a major highlight to any Yorkshire trip. It’s not just for art lovers, it’s perfect for people who love walking and the great outdoors. Or, like me, if you’ve got a new camera and want to put it to the test!

What’s more, entry to the park is free!

  1. ok this may be the 4th comment I have left in 12 hours..but I’m not stalking you…eeerrrm. I worked as a cleaner at YSP a few years ago…yep just cleaning the loos and walk ways…but it was one of the more enjoyable jobs I have had, because it is such a lovely place isn’t it!!

  2. Stalk away baby – I’ll give you my address to make it easier 😉 Thanks for making YSP the respectable and glorious place it is… I went to the loos and was indeed impressed – they have clearly not forgotten your cleaning technique. “It’s all in the wrist”.
